Joy Robinson, Registered Psychologist, Senior Therapist, Clinical Supervisor, MSc, BSW, BA (Psych) (She/Her)
I thoroughly enjoy meeting teens, adults, older adults and families who would like to start and conversation and would welcome working on your personal goals to facilitate increased self-understanding, self-compassion, and self-acceptance. Coming to counselling can be frightening, but also very rewarding. I will create a comfortable environment where you can take some steps towards achieving your personal goals.

More About Joy Robinson
I believe people are the experts on themselves about their own lives. Sometimes, it is helpful to share our stories in a safe space and explore our situations with a health practitioner. Blind spots creep in and although they are troubling at times, a person often learn even more about themselves by working collaboratively with an encouraging and experienced clinician. By working together we can be curious about how to approach problems and make steps toward personal changes that make a difference in improving your life experiences. I have worked for over 20 years as a psychologist and started my career as a social worker in Calgary. I have worked in the areas of grief and loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, family dynamics, eating disorders, and behavioural medicine. I come with a Mind and Body approach with a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Family Systems and Mindfulness approaches through a trauma-informed lens.

A COUPLE QUESTIONS:
What quick advice do you have for people who are really struggling?
Do not run from your problems. Be curious about them, as they are there to remind you of what to pay attention to and encourage you to change something to improve your life. Always take time for you every day, at least 10-30 minutes of self-care. Do the basics every day, eat healthy, sleep well, and move your body. Connect with others, you are not alone and we all are humans who share like concerns and worries. Create a community that suits you with people who will support you.

What was a defining moment in your life?
Realizing that community and connection are truly significant to achieve a full life. People will exit out of your life for different reasons and sometimes at inopportune times but let them go and find your tribe of people who are there for you.
